Bebisens sovplats

The baby's sleeping place

Something I spent a lot of time on when I was pregnant was planning how our little baby would sleep once he or she eventually arrived. They spend so incredibly much time sleeping, so it feels important that the sleeping place should be as non-toxic and clean as possible.

I had a flea market-find cradle and the crib I slept in myself as a child, which was now intended for our baby. Both needed to be refreshed, so after searching around, I concluded that a pure linseed oil paint felt like the best option. I chose to buy pre-mixed paint from Ottosson Färgmakeri, a white and a green shade that I mixed into a light greenish-turquoise color for the cradle. After a lot of sanding, I started painting. It was a bit more fiddly than with regular paint; many thin layers were needed to prevent drips and ugly marks, but I was very happy with the result.

Something good to keep in mind is that it takes a few months for the paint to cure properly, so it's important to start in good time. I painted the cradle three months before the baby was due.
